Cancer care could be moving toward more continuous monitoring as Bios Life emerges from stealth with $25 million in seed funding. The Boston-based healthtech company is developing a virtual care platform for cancer survivors and people at higher risk of developing cancer.
Bios Life announced the funding, alongside a multi-year partnership with Tempus. Redmile, Vsquared Ventures and Kindred Capital led the seed round, which also included healthcare and technology investors from the United States and Europe. The company has not disclosed its valuation. This is Bios Life’s first outside funding.
Bios Life Targets High-Risk Patients and Cancer Survivors
Bios Life is focusing on two groups that require ongoing cancer-related care: people who have survived cancer and people with an elevated risk of developing the disease. The company estimates that these groups include more than 40 million Americans. Bios Life argues that many people in these populations still receive care through separate screening appointments rather than through a system that continuously considers changes in their health and risk profile.
The startup wants to address this gap by combining different types of health information. Its platform uses clinical, laboratory, and genetic data to create what the company calls a continuously updated “digital twin” of a patient’s cancer risk. The goal is to give care teams a changing view of a patient’s risk instead of relying only on individual screening events.
A Digital Twin for Cancer Risk
Bios Life is building its technology around personalized risk monitoring. The company plans to combine information collected over time to create a digital representation of a patient’s health and cancer risk.
For example, the company has described a scenario involving a breast cancer survivor with a BRCA gene variant. Instead of relying only on scheduled screening, the patient’s monitoring could be adjusted as new clinical or other relevant information becomes available. Bios Life plans to deliver this service through a virtual care model. Licensed care teams will work with cancer centers as the company develops its U.S. platform. The approach is still being developed, and the company’s platform has not yet launched in the United States.
Partnership With Tempus
The funding announcement also included a multi-year partnership between Bios Life and Tempus, a company focused on precision medicine. Under the agreement, Bios Life will use de-identified, multi-modal oncology data from Tempus to train and validate its predictive models. The partnership is intended to provide Bios Life with access to different types of oncology information as it develops its cancer risk and surveillance technology.
Bios Life will also work with Ambry Genetics, a Tempus company specializing in hereditary cancer testing. The collaboration is expected to help Bios Life incorporate genetic screening into its approach to cancer risk monitoring. Ryan Fukushima, CEO of Data and Apps at Tempus, said the companies aim to combine Tempus’ data platform, Ambry’s hereditary genetics capabilities and Bios Life’s virtual-first care model.
Access to BioNTech-InstaDeep Genomics Technology
Bios Life also holds commercial rights to Nucleotide Transformer, a genomics foundation model developed by BioNTech and InstaDeep.
The model is designed to process genomic information at the nucleotide level. Bios Life plans to use this technology as part of its broader genomics and cancer-risk technology portfolio. The technology connection is also relevant to the company’s founding team. Bios Life was established by former BioNTech and InstaDeep executives with experience in biotechnology, genomics and healthcare.
Former BioNTech Executives Lead the Company
Ryan Richardson is Bios Life’s co-founder and CEO. He previously served as Chief Strategy Officer at BioNTech and was involved with InstaDeep following BioNTech’s acquisition of the company. Zach Taylor, another co-founder, serves as Chief Operating and Business Officer and previously held a senior vice president position at BioNTech.
Dr. Logan Frank is co-founder and Chief Medical Officer. He previously led breast radiology at the University of Missouri. The wider team includes Geoff Hyde, Head of Product and Engineering, and Dr. Thomas Pierrot, Head of AI. Pierrot previously led genomics AI research at InstaDeep.
U.S. Launch Planned for Later in 2026
Bios Life plans to launch its U.S. platform in the second half of 2026. The company says it will use a virtual care model supported by licensed care teams and partnerships with cancer centers. A waitlist is already available for people interested in the service.
The $25 million seed round will support Bios Life as it develops its technology and prepares for the planned launch. The company is entering a competitive cancer-screening and surveillance market, but its approach centers on combining risk assessment, genomic information and ongoing patient monitoring in one virtual care model.
For Bios Life, the next stage will be moving from development to clinical use and demonstrating how its technology can work within real-world cancer surveillance. With fresh funding, a Tempus data partnership and access to genomics technology from BioNTech and InstaDeep, the company now has the resources to begin that next phase.
